Record online meetings (Teams, Zoom & co.)

Capture a Teams, Zoom or other video call by recording in a second browser tab — with the meeting audio playing through your loudspeakers.

You can record an online meeting — Microsoft Teams, Zoom or any other video call — by opening deliberAIde in a second browser tab next to the call. The trick is physical: the meeting audio must play out of your device's loudspeakers, so your microphone picks up the other participants together with your own voice.

Speakers on, headphones off

Headphones, earphones and headsets do not work for this. With headphones on, the meeting audio never leaves your device, so the microphone hears only you — everyone else would be missing from the transcript. Before you record, switch the call's audio output to your loudspeakers and take the headphones off.

Set it up

  1. Join the meeting as usual and check that the sound comes out of your loudspeakers.
  2. Open deliberAIde in another browser tab. If your conferencing tool misbehaves with a second tab, try a separate browser window or a different browser instead.
  3. In the sidebar under Quick actions, click Record discussion, name the discussion and click Create — the full steps are in Record a discussion live.
  4. Click Record. Speak normally into the call; the transcript should show both you and the other participants.
  5. When the meeting ends, click Stop.

Get a clear transcript

  • Set the speaker volume to moderate or high — if you can hear the others comfortably, so can the microphone.
  • Sit in a quiet room; background noise competes with the call audio.
  • Keep the device's microphone reasonably close to the speakers — on a laptop with built-in speakers this is automatic.
  • Do a short test recording with a colleague first, and watch the first transcript lines to confirm both sides are captured. More preparation tips: Audio and device setup.

Prefer the meeting's own transcript?

Most conferencing tools can produce their own transcript. If you don't need the live transcript during the call, export it afterwards and upload the transcript file — Zoom and Teams exports are detected automatically. Direct Microsoft Teams and Zoom integrations are in development to make this more seamless; until then, the speakers-to-microphone setup above is the way to capture a call live.
