Agent mode and Plan mode
Choose whether the Co-Pilot acts right away or proposes a plan and waits for your approval.
The Co-Pilot works in two modes: in Agent mode it carries out your request right away; in Plan mode it first proposes a step-by-step plan and starts only after you approve it. Switch between them with the mode button in the toolbar below the message box.
The two modes
- Agent — full tool access: the Co-Pilot analyses, creates artifacts, and runs actions semi-autonomously. Right for everyday questions and single documents.
- Plan — the Co-Pilot plans first and you review before anything runs; actions need your approval. Right for larger jobs — say, analysing a whole event and producing several documents — where you want control over the steps.
How Plan mode works
- In the message box, describe the goal and send it.
- The Co-Pilot prepares an execution plan and replies with a plan card in the chat — a short summary of the approach plus a step counter (for example "0/4 Done").
- Click Open in Canvas to review it properly: the plan document explains the approach, and the step list beside it shows every working step to come — you can edit both right there.
- Reply in the chat with what you want changed — or tell the Co-Pilot to go ahead. Nothing runs until you do.
- While the plan executes, actions that change the workspace still ask for your approval as they come up, and the Co-Pilot reports in the chat when the plan has finished; open the created results from there.
When the Co-Pilot suggests a switch
If your request fits the other mode better, the Co-Pilot may propose a switch and give its reason. Accept the proposal to change mode, or dismiss it to continue in the current one — your choice, every time.
